ABUJA – Adamu Erena, the President of Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF), on Monday in Abuja said 15 athletes were being expected at its training camp ahead of the Junior World Squash Championships.
The Junior World Squash Championships are scheduled to take place from Aug. 6 to Aug. 21 in Windhoek, Namibia.
Erena told NAN that the camp which officially opened on Monday would run for three weeks to ensure that the athletes were fit enough to compete at the championships.
“We decided to open the camp early enough to make sure our athletes are well groomed and trained to compete favourably with the rest of the world.[eap_ad_2]
“There are so many new rules and techniques in the game which our athletes need to be acquainted with, thus the need for adequate training.
“So, the camp is expected to run from July 14 to Aug. 4.
“Today (Monday) is the arrival date and we are expecting no fewer than 15 athletes in camp,’’ he said.
The NSF president explained that the championships would involve male and female players in both the singles and doubles categories.
He also said this was the federation’s first time of participating in any world championships, and it was preparing its athletes well in order to give a good account of themselves.(NAN)[eap_ad_3]
