Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Senate on Thursday adjourned plenary in honour of the 44 soldiers killed by Boko Haram in Borno State.
Before the adjournment, the senate observed a minute silence for this fallen heros who died in defence of the country.
Sundiata Post recalls that Saraki raised the issue of the killing of 44 servicemen and women of the Nigerian Army by Boko Haram on the floor of plenary.
Saraki, stating that the death of the personnel affected all Nigerians, emphasised the need for the Upper Legislative Chamber to pay its respects to the deceased soldiers.
According to him, “This is something that affects all of us. I am sure that many of us are aware that a few days ago, we lost 44 brave soldiers of the Nigerian Army in Northern Borno. We must pay our respects to these brave men and women that sacrificed their lives and paid the ultimate sacrifice for our own safety and for the peace of the country.”
Following this, the Senate then resolved to Observe one minute silence for soldiers that lost their lives in the deadly attack by Boko Haram;
- Send a delegation to pay a condolence visit to the families of the deceased soldiers and the Chief of Army Staff;
- Mandate the Senate Committees on Defence and Army to investigate the cause of the killings of the 44 soldiers and to ensure that adequate measures being taken to ensure that this does not reoccur; and
- Send a delegation of Senators to visit Nigerian soldiers on the battlefield.
The senate also ordered the committee on army and defence to visit the military formations to ascertain if adequate care and attention are given to them in terms of military equipment and welfare.
Senate also agreed it will visit the war front to show support and solidarity.
