Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Senate has constituted an ad-hoc committee to investigate the contents of a leaked letter by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, against the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru.
The Committee headed by former Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Wammako, is also expected to investigate the policy introduced by Baru of allocating almost all petroleum products to Duke Oil.
Sundiata Post recalls that the Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu in a petition dated August 30th, 2017 addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, accused Baru of insubordination and illegal practices, including but not limited to bridge of due process in appointments.
Specifically, he accused the NNPC GMD of effecting changes in personnel at the NNPC without recourse to NNPC board or the ministry.
This Senate’s decision to probe the NNPC boss followed a motion moved on Wednesday by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics Privileges and Public Petitions, Samuel Anyanwu (PDP, Imo East).
The lawmaker accused the NNPC GMD of corruption.
Also recall that the 8th Senate initiated such probe against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and unraveled mind-buggling activities against the SGF and recommended to the executive that he be sanctioned.
