Kaduna – The Chairman, Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM), Mrs Saratu Dikko says Saturday’s fire outbreak affected all offices on 2nd floor of the building.
Dikko who addressed a news conference, following the fire incident said, her office, that of the legal and finance departments as well as the conference room were affected by the fire.
“”The offices of Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission this morning at about 10: 30 a.m. went up in flames on the 2nd floor,”“ Dikko said. .
According to her, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but no life was lost and no injuries recorded.
“”At the time the fire started, members of the commission were in an emergency meeting in the chairman’s office.
“”The ground floor, 1st floor and stores were not affected by the fire. Details of losses incurred will take days to determine.
“ “The men of the Fire Service and the Nigeria Police are investigating the immediate and the remote causes of the fire, “” Dikko said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that fire incident came few weeks before the local councils’ election.
The election in the 23 LGs and 255 wards has been scheduled for May 12.
The Secretary to the Government of Kaduna State, Lawal Balarabe and the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) also visited the commission to assess the damage caused by the fire.(NAN)
