Zaria – The Kaduna State Students’ Union (KADSSU), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) chapter, on Friday elected and inaugurated new executives to run the affairs of the union for two years.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the union had been engulfed in series of crises which lingered for almost 16 years, leaving the union without elected executives.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the ABU main campus, Samaru, Zaria, Kaduna State, the Electoral Committee Chairman, Bello Aliyu-Hayatu, described the exco as a unique one.
“The executives we are swearing in today are unique, because for the past 16 years, no election held in the union; however, we are happy today our dream has become a reality.
“The journey was not an easy task; it wasn’t simple and it was of course not soft; however, we are grateful to Allah (SWT) we delivered the goods successfully.”
While appealing to KADSSU members to remain united and be good ambassadors of the union, the electoral committee chairman advised the new executives to carry the members along.
In his speech, the outgoing Acting President, Lawal Muhammad-Usman, thanked his executives and other members of the union for their support and cooperation and urged them to extend similar support to the new executives.
Muhammad-Usman said that the outgoing excutives succeeded in organising a lecture in the university, which attracted the presence of representatives of three commissioners, among other dignitaries.
The Emir of Zazzau, Dr Shehu Idris, urged all members of the union to imbibe the spirit of unity, adding that their diversity shouldn not be a curse but a challenge.
“I want charge the new exco to imbibe the spirit of togetherness, accommodation and forgiveness to take the union to greater heights.”
In his acceptance speech, the new President, Muhammad Kabir-Usman, thanked the entire members of the union for finding him worthy to lead them.
He solicited the support and cooperation of all members and promised to carry everyone along to facilitate rapid growth of the union.
