Kaduna – Kaduna United Football Club on Wednesday said it had recruited 10 grassroots players to join its team ahead of the 2015/2016 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign.

Jide Bodunde, the club’s Media Officer, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna that the club also retained 14 players from the team it had last season.

He said the recruitment was aimed at bringing in young and talented players in an attempt to strengthen the club.

“We want to build a stronger team than we had in the 2014/ 2015 season.

“This is why we are bringing on board young and talented players who can win matches for us in the quest of coming back to the Premier League where we belong.

“ The club began screening and training new players since Nov. 25, so that they can blend with the old players who were retained.

“The 10 new players are signed from grassroots clubs in Kaduna, and this is a first in the history of the club,’’ Bodunde said.

The media officer said the club would embark on a training tour of South Africa in January to further complement this recruitment and selection processes.

“While 14 old players were retained, the 10 players who joined the club on loan last season have been asked to return to their respective clubs.

“Now, we shall be playing friendly matches with other clubs within Kaduna so that the team will be stronger before the league commences in 2016,’’ Bodunde said.

He also said the club had secured sponsorship kits deal with a reputable sports wear.

The media officer said this would also help in ensuring that the club’s replica jersey would be available in stores at an affordable price across the nation.

He added that the club would soon be unveiling its players and coaches, and also planned to have tickets available for its matches on match days.

Bodunde disclosed further that the club was building an online television portal which would be linked to the team’s website.

“The portal which is currently under construction and the club’s other social media platform will focus on the players and coaches, with pre-match and post-match interviews,’’ he said.(NAN)
