Kano – The Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday approved the suspension of the Chairman, Gaya Local Government Council, Alhaji Lawan Saleh.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the assembly has also written to the State Chief Judge, to set up a seven-man panel to investigate allegations against the suspended chairman.
NAN reports that during the deliberation, 21 members of the assembly supported the suspension while three voted against.
Saleh’s suspension was based on a petition by Councillors representing the 10 wards of the local government, which was submitted to the assembly.
The Speaker, Alhaji Kabiru Rurum, said the councillors had indicated that the chairman had failed to respond to the allegations of negligence of duty levelled against him.
In the petition, the councillors accused the chairman of abandoning the local government for upward of four months without their knowledge.
Rurum, said that the councillors had urged the assembly to approve the suspension of Saleh for three months and investigate the allegation. (NAN)
