Kano – Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), has expressed concern over the poor power allocated to its network for distribution, from the National Control Centre (NCC), Oshogbo.
The complaint is contained in a statement signed by the company’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Mohammed Kandi and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Wednesday.
“The ugly trend has ensured that we have meagre load for customers in our franchise area,’’the Area Control Centre Kumbotso in Kano,” the statement said.
It added that the low energy allocation was impacting negatively on revenue generation.
“Such scanty allocation forces us into constant power outages.
“The past few months have been particularly challenging; our customers have suffered massive blackout which makes it difficult to face customers for collections.
“There are times power allocation to Kano hovered around an average of 40 megawatts” it added.
The statement said that the company required an average of 600 megawatts daily to satisfy the electricity needs of customers in its coverage area.
It said that its coverage area comprised Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.
The statement said that KEDCO had the technical capacity to absorb 800 megawatts. (NAN)
