Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has taken a decisive step in addressing issues of misappropriation of public property, political violence, and missing persons during the tenure of his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje, by inaugurating two judicial commissions of inquiry.
During the inauguration on Thursday, Governor Yusuf charged the commissions to diligently investigate and bring to justice anyone found culpable. He emphasized that uncovering the truth behind cases of political violence and missing persons is essential for upholding democracy and preventing future occurrences.
The first commission, led by Justice Zuwaira Yusuf, will focus on probing cases of political violence and missing persons from 2015 to 2023. Governor Yusuf urged the commission to identify the perpetrators and sponsors of violence, regardless of their political affiliations, and ensure they face the full consequences of their actions.
Similarly, the second commission, headed by Justice Faruk Lawan, has been tasked with investigating cases of misappropriation of public property and assets. Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of uncovering any instances of misappropriation, both within and outside the state, without bias or political motivation.
Governor Yusuf reiterated that these inquiries are not politically motivated but are driven by the mandate of the people of Kano State. He urged the members of both commissions to uphold their oath of office and remain committed to delivering justice for the state.
The governor’s actions underscore the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and justice in governance. They also serve as a reminder that those responsible for criminal acts, regardless of their status, will be held accountable under the law.
