Kano – The Kano State Government has procured sanitation equipment worth N1.6 billion as part of efforts to ensure effective refuse collection and disposal in the state.
Alhaji Mohammed Kura, the Managing Director, State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kano.
He said the items procured by the government are 50 cab tricycles, 86 waste collection tippers, two D8K bulldozers and floor street sweepers.
According to him, the board is committed toward keeping the city clean and tidy.
“We will also ensure that the city is mosquito free in conformity with the cardinal objectives of the present administration’s policy thrust.
He disclosed that the board is collecting 4, 000 tons of waste every day,” Kura said.
He said that the state government had planned to establish refuse recycling centre at Zaura village in Ungogo Local Government Area of the state.
Kura added that the recycling centre at Dorayi Babba would be converted into full capacity industrial raw materials.
“It will also help to sanitise Kano metropolis as well as boost revenue generation of the state government,” he said.
He called on the general public to support the government’s effort to ensure clean environment by disposing their waste at the designated refuse dump sites.
The managing director appealed to traditional and religious leaders to mobilise their people to improve the sanitary condition of state. (NAN)
