Kano – The Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) says it will establish Special Marshals to control traffic hold-ups in Kano metropolis, especially in the evening.
The Managing Director of the agency, Alhaji Hadi Zarewa, made the disclosure when he paid a courtesy visit to the General Manager of Pyramid Radio (FM), Kano, on Tuesday.
Zarewa said the measure was informed by the difficulty motorists and commuters were facing in the city during the evening rush hours.
He said the special marshals would serve as volunteers.
‘’They will assist the state government in easing the heavy traffic that keeps recurring during the evening hours.
‘’Rendering voluntary service by willing individuals is a common trend all over the world,’’ he said.
He, however, said that the special marshals would not be mandated to arrest traffic offenders.
According to him, the main mission of the agency was to enforce the rules and regulations governing its establishment by the state government.
‘’The agency will not take it lightly with anybody who violates traffic rules and regulations,” the managing director warned.
He said he was at the Radio station to solicit the support and cooperation of its management in moving the agency forward.
