Kano – The Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission has tried over 1, 300 cases before various courts in the state within the last one year.
The State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje disclosed this at a Town Hall Meeting organised by the state government in Kano on Sunday, to commemorate one year anniversary of the administration.
According to him, there are still a number of pending cases of corruption at various courts in the state.
He said the decision to restructure the commission was borne out of the state government’s desire to strengthen the fight against corruption.
“When we came, we restructured the commission with a view to making it more effective.”
He said the state government also took bold steps to improve internal revenue generation by blocking areas of leakages.
Similarly, he said, the state government restructured the state Board of Internal Revenue and employed technical adversers to ensure effective performance.
“We have seen improvement on our revenue generation and by June, the state government will make it public”, Ganduje said.
He said that following dwindling Federal allocation as a result of the fall in the price of oil, the state government had taken measures to reduce the cost of governance.
He said part of the measures taken included the reduction in the number of ministries from 19 to 14, and a 50 per cent cut in the salaries and allowances of political office holders.
NAN reports that the meeting was attended by members of business community and representatives of various organisations in the state. (NAN).
