The speaker of the Kano state House of Assembly, Alhaji Abdullahi Yusuf Ata, has been impeached. According to reports, the speaker was impeached on Monday, July 30, alongside two other principal officers.

It was gathers that the impeachment plan was hatched after the 40-member Assembly resumed from its two-month recess. The member representing the Warawa constituency, Labaran Madari, raised the impeachment motion, which was seconded by the lone member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdullahi Muhammed.

It was previously reported that members of the Kano state House of Assembly voted to impeach the speaker of the house, Alhaji Abdullahi Yusuf Ata. The vote to impeach the speaker was secretly carried out on Sunday night, May 13. A source blamed incompetence as the reason Ata was about to be impeached by other lawmakers. “The reasons are many but the major one is incompetency.

The speaker has completely localised the house. We cannot sit until after 2pm and even at that things are not moving as expected. We cannot just continue like that because we are representing our constituents,” the source added.
