Kano – The Kano State Government said on Tuesday that it had so far empowered 2,029 women and youths in the state.
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje disclosed this while presenting empowerment items to 500 unemployed women and youths at the Government House, Kano.
Ganduje who was represented by his deputy, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar said that the programme was organised to empower the youths and women in the state.
He said that the beneficiaries were properly screened and selected from each of the 44 local government areas of the state.
NAN reports that the items distributed include grinding machine, Akara and Masa fryer, cooking oil, flour, rice among others.
The governor said that the state government had also empowered over 1,500 widows and orphans as part of effort to make them self-reliant.
Ganduje said that each of the beneficiary would also receive N5,000 to enable them start a business of their choice.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Information, Mallam Muhammad Garba, said the state government had succeeded in fulfilling its campaign promises.
Garba, who is also the chairman of the empowerment committee, urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the items. (NAN)
