Kano – The Kano State Commissioner for Health , Dr Kabiru Getso, said on Friday that the state had recorded a decline in the incidences of death from vaccine preventable diseases.
Getso stated this in an address to mark the ‘African Immunisation Week’ in Kano.
He said the state had made a remarkable progress in all aspects of immunisation services.
The commissioner said the services include; “Cold Chain and logistics, community mobilisation as well as increasing the coverage of ‘Penta Vaccine’ from 3 to 300 per cent.
“Despite the achievements, almost all local government areas reported measles cases and the data quality assurance surveys have shown consistent gaps across the levels of reporting.
“The quality of outreach services has also indicated that a lot needed to be done to close the wide gap on unimmunised children,” he said.
Getso called for greater efforts at community linkage activities and accountability of health workers entrusted with service delivery, documentation and reporting of data.
On Africa Vaccination Week, Getso said it was to strengthen immunisation programmes by raising awareness on the importance of every person’s need and right to be protected from vaccine preventable diseases.
He commended all stakeholders in polio eradication in Kano, urging them to be more committed until Nigeria achieved the Polio-free status. (NAN)
