Zango – The Katsina Government has allocated 10,382 bags of fertiliser to Zango Local Government Area for the 2017 wet season farming.
Alhaji Usman Zango, Senior Special Adviser on Political Matters to Gov. Aminu Masari, announced the figure while launching the sale of the commodity in Zango on Wednesday.
Zango is also the Chairman of the Committee on Sale and Distribution of Fertiliser in the local government.
He said that the commodity would be sold to interesting farmers at the cost of N5,500 per bag at the 98 polling units in the council area.
The chairman said that each polling unit would be allocated 109 bags of the Urea and NPK.
He said that the government increased the quantity of fertiliser per polling unit this year to enable more farmers to have access to it.
Zango added that the aim was to prevent diversion of the commodity.
He said that the government bought the fertiliser at the cost N8,000 per bag and subsidised it to N5,500 to encourage farmers.
The chairman said that the government was determined to promote agriculture with a view to achieving food security and economic growth.
Also, the state government allocated 17,222 bags of fertiliser to the Mai’adua Local Government Area for distribution and sales at its 158 polling units.
Alhaji Idris Suleiman, the Chairman of the Committee on Sale and Distribution of Fertiliser in the area, made this known in Mai’adua on Wednesday.
He said that 109 bags of the commodity would be allocated to each of the polling units in the 10 wards in the council area.
Each bag is to be sold for N5,500, according to the chairman.
He said that the state government had directed security agencies to be vigilant against diversion of the commodity.
He advised farmers to make judicious use of the fertiliser.
