Katsina Deputy Governor seeks extension of permanent voter cards distribution

FASKARI (KATSINA STATE) – The Katsina State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC).
Garba spoke to newsmen at Faskari Model Primary School, Katsina State, on Monday shortly after collecting his voter card.
He said that the extension became necessary in view of the public outcry trailing the exercise in some communities.
The deputy governor urged INEC to consider the pleadings and extend the exercise in order to give people adequate opportunity to collect their voter cards.
Garba called on people in rural areas to ensure that they collect their cards within the stipulated period.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that people in Katsina State South Senatorial zone had decried the non-availability of the voter cards.
NAN reports that the exercise was smooth in Malumfashi Local Government, except in Almakiyayi ward where the exercise started late.
It was also discovered that in some units materials were not available within the township.
In Kafur, the exercise started on Sunday and there were complaints on absence of PVCs at Masari, Dankanjiba, Mahuta and Yari Bori villages.
As at Monday morning, the exercise had not commenced in parts of Musawa Local Government Area, while collection of cards was smooth in Bakori, Dandume and Danja Local Government Areas.
At Maigora and Dikke villages in Faskari and Funtua Local Government Areas, respectively the exercise was hitch-free.
However, peoples in various parts of Funtua Local Government Area were still expecting their cards as at the time of filling this report. (NAN)
