KATSINA – The Chairman, Diabetes Association of Nigeria (DAN) in Katsina State, Alhaji[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″] Ahmadu Na-Funtua, has urged the state government to assist diabetic patients with drugs.
Na-Funtua made the call on Thursday in Katsina a[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]t a forum to commemorate the World Diabetic Day.
He said that[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″] the call had become necessary considering the rising number of people contracting[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″] the disease on daily basis.
Na-Funtua said that most of the people tested positive with diabetes were poor and could not afford medication and balanced diet.
‘’I am calling on the government and wealthy individuals to come to our aid with drugs; we need free medicine by the government,’’ he said.
He urged the patients to always abide by the rules given by health experts on the disease for them to live longer adding that ‘’every ailment has cure except death.’’
In his remarks, the General-Manager, Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board, Dr Kabir Dara, said that disease was caused by heredity factors.
Dara, who was represented by Hajiya Uwani Muhammad, said that diabetes symptoms included frequent urinating, excessive drinking of water, loss of body weight and general weakness.
He advised diabetic patients to always eat balanced diet, take more vegetables, engage in regular exercise and take their drugs as stipulated.(NAN)
