KATSINA – The Katsina State Government said on Wednesday that it has recorded 86 per cent success in the implementation of its budget for 2014.
The Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Muhammad Jari said this in Katsina while giving a breakdown of the state’s 2015 budget.
He said that out of the N113.3 billion budgeted for 2014, N32.2 billion was for recurrent expenditure and N81.1 billion for capital spendings.
The commissioner said that N70 billion, representing 82 per cent of the budget, was realised from the Federation Account to finance the budget and N15.4 billion, representing 18 per cent, from internal sources.
‘’The government was able to meet all its obligations such as the payment of salaries, pension and gratuities, payment of contractors among others, without borrowing, locally or internationally,’’ he said.
On the 2015 budget, the commissioner said that government proposed to spend N110.1 billion.
Jari said that the government plans to spend N75.4 billion of the amount on capital projects and N43.5 billion on recurrent expenditure.
According to him, N70 billion will come from the federation account, while N15.4 billion would be from Internally Generated Revenue.
He said the 2015 budget would focus largely on the provision of free education, free health care service and provision of other social services to improve the living condition of the citizenry.
Jari also said the state government would intensify efforts to explore other sources of revenue, in view of sliding crude oil prices, which reduces the country’s earnings. (NAN)
