KATSINA – A 20-year-old man, Auwalu Umar, on Friday appeared before a Senior Magistrates Court, Katsina for alleged culpable homicide.
Umar, who resides at Katsayal village of Sandamu Local Government in Katsina State, appeared before Senior Magistrate Abdurrahman Umar on one-count charge of homicide.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Kabiru Muhammad told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 10 at about 8.30 pm.
Muhammad said that one Abdulmumini Adamu of the same village reported at Sandamu police station that the accused had killed another man during a fight.

He said that on the fateful date, the accused and the victim engaged in a fight where the accused used a stick to hit the deceased on the head three times.
The prosecutor said that as a result, the deceased sustained injuries on his head and fell on the ground unconscious.
Muhammad said that the corpse was taken to Daura General Hospital where a doctor confirmed the victim dead.
He said that the corpse was later released to the deceased’s relatives for burial.
The prosecutor said that the accused had committed an offence contrary to section 221 of the penal code.
The senior magistrate said that the court would not take the plea of the accused as it lacked jurisdiction to do so.
Umar however ordered the case file to be forwarded to the state Ministry of Justice for advise, after which the accused would be taken to the High Court for trial.
He adjourned the case to July 1 and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody. (NAN)
