Katsina- The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Alhaji Muhammed Hurdi, has warned candidates and political party supporters in the state to desist from making inflammatory statements during and after the forthcoming elections.
Hurdi gave the warning during a meeting with political parties, candidates, security agencies and party supporters in Katsina.
He said the police would deal decisively with any person no matter how highly placed, if found disrupting the peace.
“The command advises the politicians to call their boys to order and make them behave as gentlemen.
“We have been monitoring the campaign activities and we are not happy with the utterances of many politicians in the state.
“Some of the politicians have been using abusive and derogatory statements against their opponents.
“I advise you to stop name calling as it has the capacity to overheat the polity,” he said.

The police commissioner, who was represented by his deputy, DCP Bala Sama, also appealed to the politicians to be their brothers’ keeper.
Earlier speaking, the All Progressives Party (APC) representative, Alhaji Muhktar Lawal, called on the police to be fair and just to all the political parties during and after the elections.
Lawal also appealed to security agencies to provide level laying ground to all the parties during the elections.
Also speaking, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in the state, Alhaji Rabiu Gambo, assured the security agencies of his party’s readiness to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Gambo called on his counterparts in other political parties to cooperate with the security agencies so that the elections could be conducted peacefully in the state. (NAN)
