Daura – Rice farmers in Katsina State have commended the Emir of Katsina Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir and his Daura counter part, Alhaji Umar Farouk for their inspiring roles in agricultural transformation in the state.
The farmers under aegis of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura on Thursday.
RIFAN state chairman, Malam Shuaibu Wakili, described the emirs as icons of agricultural transformation, saying their support was outstanding and instrumental to the effective implementation of the anchor borrower scheme, particularly in rice production.
He said that the royal fathers had received the Federal Government massive rice production programme with enthusiasm and commitment.
“It is because of their belief and interest in the program that they mandated districts and village heads to sensitise their subjects on the lofty objectives of the scheme,” Wakil said.
He said that the interest shown by the royal fathers has also encouraged farmers in remote areas to key into the program.
The state RIFAN chairman said that the association would next week, commence the distribution of agricultural inputs to about 75,000 members for the wet farming season to boost rice production.
Wakili also commended the state police command for its support,, saying its personnel were helpful to RIFAN members, especially in the movement and distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers.
“We conduct our activities without fear, intimidation or harassment as the police are always on the watch,” he added.
