Birnin Kebbi – The Kebbi Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hajiya Rakiya Ayuba, has commended the Federal Government for the fight against corruption in the country.
The commissioner gave the commendation in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, during a ministerial briefing, organised by the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Ayuba said the fight had tremendously reduced corrupt practices in public offices and helped in bringing sanity to the education sector of the country.
“You all have children; go and ask them if teachers are still bribed before a child is passed.
“This is one of the impacts of the federal government’s fight against corruption; the effect is now trickling down to our states and ministries,” she said.
She also said that about 237 awaiting criminal and civil cases that accumulated in the state from 2015 to 2017 had been treated in order to decongest the prisons in the state.
“Most of the cases were inherited from the past administration; they were pending without being given speedy hearing in courts.
“The awaiting trial syndrome is a burden in Nigeria and of course, it affects Kebbi state too. We have, however, reduced the number of cases to a minimal level,” she said.
According to her, the ministry is working closely with the state House of Assembly to domesticate some new laws for dispensation of justice in the state.
“My ministry will continue to ensure that the common man gets justice,” she said.
