Birnin Kebbi – The Kebbi State Government has procured firefighting equipment worth N35million to ensure effective tackle fire outbreak in the state.
Alhaji Bello Zagga, the State Director of Fire Service, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi.
He said the equipment would be distributed to the department’s outfits located in the 21 local government areas of the state.
“The equipment include: fire extinguishers, safety jackets, fume, and other relevant materials,’’ he said.
Zagga said the department had this year repaired four fire fighting vehicles and trained 30 officers on rapid response to emergency situations.
He said that the department had also created four additional offices in Birnin Kebbi metropolis for wider coverage of the city.
According to him, these offices are located in Tudunwada, Gadangwaji, Badariya and Hesse communities in the metropolis.
He, therefore, expressed delight over the positive disposition of the administration toward the service, adding that the general public should appreciate the gesture.
He, however, warned the public against the use of substandard electrical cables and engaging in indiscriminate connections.
Zagga advised them to always engage experts knowledgeable in electric matters for their houses.
NAN reports that the state recorded 167 fire incidents last year.
