Birnin Kebbi – The Ministry of Health in Kebbi has inaugurated a committee to coordinate healthcare response to humanitarian crisis in the state.
Hajiya Halima Dikko, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, inaugurated the committee in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
She said its formation was in line with the recommendations of the 64th National Council on Health meeting.
“During the meeting, it has been recommended that every state in the federation has to establish the committee on health sector response to humanitarian crises in their respective states.
“The committee will serves as a coordinating platform in health sector as it includes collaborative agencies such as the State Emergency Management Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps, Police and Non-Governmental Organizations.”
Dikko said the committee would coordinate medical responses during emergencies for optimal results, and enjoined members of the committee to work closely to achieve the desired outcome.
In his remarks, Alhaji Abubakar Zauro, Chairman of the committee, pledged that they would collaborate with relevant government agencies and organisations to deliver on its mandate.
Zauro, who is the state Director, Nursing Services, said the committee would advise and provide technical guides to the state government as well as adopt best practices to ensure rapid response to emergencies.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other members of the committee included, Alhaji Musa Fage, Alhaji Ibrahim Zubairu, Dr Usman Illo, Mr Kennedy Zubulum and Malam Samaila Argungu.
