Birnin Kebbi – The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kebbi chapter, on Thursday resolved to henceforth prosecute impostors and quacks parading themselves as registered members of the union.
This is contained in a communiqué issued after the state executive council meeting and signed by the chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Jajirma in Birnin Kebbi.
It stated that the decision was to stop rising number of quacks operating in the state.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
The council advised members to practice journalism strictly within the ethics of the profession, and to avoid misrepresentation of facts to avert problems.
It urged them to show exemplary conduct, adding that the union would take measures to protect the welfare of all its members.
The communique further said that the council would create enabling environment for members to operate, pledging that training opportunities would be provided to enhance performance.
The NUJ appealed to members of the general public to always support journalists with prompt information, to ensure accurate dissemination of information and avoid sensationalism. (NAN)
