Nollywood actor and prominent figure in the Labour Party (LP), Kenneth Okonkwo, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent national broadcast addressing the country’s economic challenges.
In Tinubu’s speech, he outlined plans to alleviate the current hardships faced by many Nigerians.
These plans included addressing the minimum wage, fuel subsidy issues that mainly benefited a select group of individuals, boosting the economy, allocating N50 billion for small-scale businesses, and introducing affordable mass transit buses across states and local governments.
However, Kenneth took to Twitter to express his disappointment, stating that Tinubu seemed to blame everyone except himself for the country’s economic woes.
He was particularly surprised that Tinubu singled out a few powerful and wealthy individuals for responsibility while failing to acknowledge his own role as a leader among those influential figures.
Kenneth also pointed out that the president missed a crucial opportunity to address the issue of Nigeria’s excessive importation of refined petroleum, which heavily impacts foreign exchange reserves.
He emphasized that urgent measures to fix the country’s refineries were necessary to tackle this problem.
Furthermore, Kenneth criticized Tinubu’s approach to providing loans with an unrealistic one-year payback expectation in a depressed economy, comparing it to dealing with hard drug traders.
This, he believed, only added to the sense of hopelessness in the country.
Just listened to the leader of APC's broadcast and heard him blaming every other person, except himself, for Nigeria's woes. Surprised that he blamed few powerful rich people for our problem. I will agree with him if he will agree that he is the leader of the few powerful rich…
