NAIROBI – Morocco has thrown its weight behind Kenya’s bid to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
Morocco’s Ambassador to Kenya Abdelilah Benryane affirmed his country’s support for Kenya on Thursday when he hosted the Kenya national football team, Harambee Stars, and Football Kenya Federation officials to dinner at his Nairobi residence.
Kenya is one of the seven countries bidding to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. Others are Algeria, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Sudan and Zimbabwe.
The ambassador, a former footballer with top Moroccan league side Raja Casablanca, also assured the entire African continent that Morocco is ready to host the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. [eap_ad_2] He said the tournament would be one of the best finals ever.
“Our stadia and training grounds are all ready and the Harambee Stars friendly against Morocco on Monday will be played in one of the venues earmarked for the Cup of Nations, the Grand Stade in Marrakech.
“We support the Kenyan bid for 2017 as we believe that an Eastern Africa Country should get the nod from CAF,’’ said the envoy.
Kenya, bundled out of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, will use the friendly to shape up for the 2014 Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations Senior Challenge Cup in Addis Ababa. (PANA/NAN) [eap_ad_3]
