Long distance runners from Kenya yesterday confirmed their dominance of the IAAF Bronze Medal categorised annual 10-kilometre Okpekpe race in Okpekpe, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo.
Kenyan runners won the three positions up for grabs in the female category and two of the three in the male category at the 3rd edition of the competition which took place yesterday.
Tanui Aifele came first in the female category finishing at 33.34 minutes. She was followed by Rionoripo while Mary Wacere came 3rd.
In the male category, Alex Oritiptip came first winning in 29.20 minutes. Leish Gabrielselase of Ethiopia came second while Amos Mutei of Kenya came 3rd.
Korio commended the organisers of the event and pledged to participate in future events, saying “I am very happy, this is a race for Africa, I thank the organisers, it is to motivate us (Africans) and also the race was very competitive”.

The winners in both categories went home with $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000 respectively. For local category (Nigeria), Deborah Pam Baduny came first in the female category while Emmanuel Gyang Gwon and Gideon Goyet came first and second position, respectively in male category.
Speaking at the event, Comrade Governor Adams Oshiomhole who led several other political office holders and some celebrities from Nollywood on the 10 kilometre race called on captains of industries to set up cottage industries, hotels and amusement parks in Opkpekpe community in Etsako East local government area in order to boost the economic potentials of the community.
