Kano – The Kano State Government has inaugurated a six-man Committee to look into the problem of non-implementation of promotion for some primary school teachers for over 10 years.
This is contained in a statement signed by Malam Usman Bello, the Director Press in the Deputy Governor’s office, and made available to newsmen in Kano on Friday.
According to the statement, the committee was inaugurated by the Deputy Governor and Commissioner of Education, Prof Hafiz Abubakar.
The statement quoted the deputy governor as saying the state government was very much concerned that some primary school teachers had stagnated for over 10 years.
He said that no meaningful development could be achieved in education when the development of teachers in terms of their welfare and career progression was neglected .
He charged the committee to examine and document cases of promotion of teachers that were on hold as well as the promotions that had yet to be implemented and its cost implications .
Abubakar also charged the committee to examine reasons for the non-implementation of annual salary increment of the teachers and recommend modalities for consideration.
The committee was also directed to critically examine other related issues incidental to the assignment.
The body has three weeks within which to conclude its assignment .
The committee is chaired by the Permanent Member one, State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), Alhaji Umar Muhammad, while the Director Personnel of the Board, Alhaji Balarabe Karaye is to serve as Secretary.(NAN
