ABUJA – The Kogi State governorship election petitions tribunal on Tuesday, ruled that former Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, was not competent to challenge the election of Yahaya Bello as the Governor of Kogi State.
Wada, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had asked the tribunal to declare him winner of the governorship election.
He had argued that Bello was not qualified to be declared winner as he did not have a running mate then.
But in her ruling, Justice Halima Mohammed dismissed the petition, saying Wada lacked the locus standi to challenge Bello’s election.
The Judge said Wada never participated in the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that fielded Bello, hence, not competent to challenge his nomination.
On Monday the tribunal had also thrown out the petition filed by Mr. James Faleke erstwhile running mate to the late APC governorship candidate for the election, Prince Abubakar Audu. Faleke had also petitioned against the election of Yahaya Bello, arguing that he (Faleke) and not Bello was the right governorship candidate of APC, having been running mate to Audu, who had died in the course of the election.
