The Ogidi Development Association (ODA) in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi has expended N12.8 million on community projects in the last two years.
Mr Femi Oloruntoba, the association’s national president, made the disclosure on Monday during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the people of Ogidi community.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the annual event was jointly organised by Onah Gongogo, Otun and Ohi communities that made up the Ogidi Community.
“Some of the projects executed include: the purchase of a transformer, renovation of Ogidi Community Secondary School, grading of Ogidi-Kabba road, renovation and furnishing of the community police station and purchase of two motorcycles for use by the police officers policing the community.
“The projects, which are human oriented, were executed in the last two years to enhance the social and economic status of our community.
“Again, ODA has been able to attract the attention of the Federal Government to the deplorable condition of the Ogidi-Iyara road which is currently undergoing rehabilitation by FERMA,” he explained.
The president also disclosed that ODA has other self help projects already lined up for execution from 2022.
Oloruntoba listed the projects to include; the community street project, purchase of a patrol vehicle for the police, construction of a library, school laboratory equipment, construction of a youth development centre, and boreholes among others.
He appealed to the indigenes of Ogidi, both at home and abroad, to show more interest in the development of the community in order to make it more attractive to investors.
The ODA President appealed to both the Federal and state governments to come to the aid of the community through implementation of projects that would uplift the standard of living of the people.
NAN reports that the event was climax by the presentation of two motorcycles to the police station in the town, launching of two books on the history and people of Ogidi, display of cultural dances and presentation of awards/prices to outstanding sons and daughters.
The occasion was graced by some traditional rulers including the Olojo of Ogidi; Oba Stephen Dada-Arogundade, Oluotun of Ogidi; Oba Joseph Alamoh and Olokoro of Ogidi; Oba Samuel Ajayi-Sule.
Some prominent indigenes in attendance included Mr Sunday Thomas, Federal Commissioner for Insurance, Chief Executive Officer, National Insurance Commission, Chief APS, Arogundade, a Computer Expert, Prof Funlola Alabi, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the Anglican Bishop of Ijumu Diocese, Rt. Reverend Olanrewaju Ojo.
