KSHTC to become degree awarding institution in 2015 — Provost

MAKARFI (KADUNA) – Dec. 5, 2014 (NAN) Malam Musa Garba-Abdullahi, the Provost, Shehu Idris College of Health Sciences and Technology, Makarfi, on Friday said the institution would start awarding degrees by 2015.
Garba-Abdullahi made the disclosure on Friday at the 2014/2015 matriculation of students at the main campus of the college in Makarfi, Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
He said: “By God’s (Allah’s) will, we intend to make the following improvements in the college by the year 2015.
“We want to make the college a training centre for the following degrees, while affiliate universities award such degrees in BSc. Community Health, B. Tech Environmental Health and B. Tech Dental Technology”.
According to him, the college intends to create a working relationship with Kaduna State University in pre-training of Pharmacists, Reproductive Health and Medical Laboratory Sciences.
The provost said that with the members of staff recruited recently as well as execution of 2014 capital project, the college would send five courses to National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for accreditation.
He said the courses are Higher National Diploma (HND) in Nutrition and Social Development, National Diploma (ND) in Physiology, Medical Imaging Technology and Medical Statistics.
Garba-Abdullahi recalled that the 2013/2014 academic year was full of memorable landmarks, including the accreditation of midwifery programme by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
Others are the sustenance of accreditation status of nine courses through re-accreditation, accreditation of four HND courses, two ND courses and a diploma course.
He said the college also recorded structural expansion of the academic units and among others. (NAN)
