KUJE (FCT) – Residents of Shadadi and Lanto communities in Kuje Area Council on Saturday lamented the deplorable state of roads, epileptic power supply and lack of portable water in the areas.
Some residents of the communities, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kuje on Saturday, said the state of infrastructure had hindered economic and social lives in the communities.
Malam Aminu Garba, a resident of Shadadi community, blamed the deplorable state of road linking the community to the insensitivity of Kuje Area Council to the wellbeing of residents.
“This is the only road linking this community and we have approached the council severally on the need to either tar it or rehabilitate it to facilitate transportation system.
“The most painful part of the issue is that the electricity we are having in the community today is 100 per cent community sponsored.
“We are appealing to Kuje Area Council Administration to come to our aid and get the road rehabilitated in the interest of fairness,” he said.
Mr Haruna Dogo, a farmer and resident of Lanto village, said the deplorable state of road linking the community had resulted to selling of agricultural products at giveaway prices.
He said that 90 per cent of the residents in the community were farmers, adding that the rehabilitation of the road would ease transportation of agricultural products and enhance their economic lives.
“We are predominantly farmers in this community and our source of encouragement has been our ability to convey our produce to Kuje market.
“Since the road became deplorable, it has not been easy for us to convey our products to the market and we have always been forced to sell at giveaway prices.
A market woman, Mrs Amaka Eze, appealed to the Kuje Area Council Administration to come to the aid of resident of Lanto community.
She said that the state of road had resulted to high cost of transportation of goods and services to Kuje market.
“In the past, when the road was in a good state, farmers are always encouraged to bring their goods and products to the market,’’ she said. (NAN)
