Ilorin – The Kwara Government on Wednesday said it extended the tenure of chairman of Offa Local Government to ensure uniform tenure for all council chairmen in the state.
Alhaji Mahmud Ajeigbe, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, said this while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin.
According to him, the state government did not act outside the provisions of the law because the law permits the extension of council chairmen tenure for six months in two installments.
“The state government acted within the provision of the law. The State House of Assembly also approved this request.
“People could only raise objection if government has gone against the law”.
He, however, said that the state would be guided by the law in taking decisions on the conduct of local government election at the expiration of the tenure of the current chairmen in November.
Ajeigbe said that the state would take into consideration the resources at its disposal and act within the law guiding local government administration in the state.
Meanwhile, the state has shifted the mock examination for Senior School Students III from second term to first term.
The commissioner said that the development was to enhance and improve quality of education in the state.
“Mock examination is expected to be a test to their final examinations.
“When they are tested during the first term, it would avail government an opportunity to know their performance.
“This will enable government to take necessary steps before their final examinations in May the following year; it will give us an opportunity of five to six months”.
The commissioner said that the idea was aimed at reviewing education programme in the state.
Ajeigbe, while speaking on the closure of 25 schools in the state, said the affected schools were in bad shape and were not operating within the law.
