ILORIN (SUNDIATA POST)- Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara has expressed satisfaction with the turnout of the electorate for Saturday’s Local Government Elections in the state.

Abdulrazaq spoke to newsmen in Ilorin after casting his vote at Idigba Polling Unit 004, Adewole Ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area (LGA) at about 10.55 am.

He described the exercise as peaceful.

“From what we can see here, the turnout is very okay. Democracy has come to stay,” he said.

The governor further commended the security agencies for being professional and urged them to maintain the spirit.

Also, the All Progressives Congress Candidate for Ilorin South LGA, Mr Majeed Bolakale-Podo, adjudged the process to be peaceful and orderly.

“Everything is going smoothly. There has not been any complaint in all the wards in Ilorin South.

“It has been peaceful and orderly so far,” Bolakale-Podo said.

Speaking on his programme for the people, if elected, he said that he would follow the footsteps of the governor, “because he is a performing governor”.

Also speaking on the exercise, the Chairman of the state Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Baba-Okanla, ascribed the delay in the commencement of the election to breakdown in logistics.

Baba-Okanla spoke while monitoring the exercise in different parts of the Ilorin metropolis.

He said: “Some circumstances can cause delay.

“Some of the vehicles conveying election materials to polling units broke down and we’ve found ways to amend the situation.

“You can see in this area now, normalcy has returned.

“In some of the places we’ve visited, there was no problem.

“It’s just that there was late arrival of materials. But as soon as we got there, situations improved.” (NAN)
