ILORIN – A traditional ruler, Oba AbdulGaniyu Olusookun II, will on Tuesday in Ilorin lay the foundation stone of the secretariat of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara chapter.
The task by the monarch, who is the Elerin of Erin-Ile in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara, will formally kick-start the project which will have five offices.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the facility also has a library and a conference room.
When completed, the secretariat will be equipped with modern information and communication gadgets which will assist journalists to discharge their duties effectively.
Also expected at the occasion are the state’s Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Saheed Popoola, and his Information and Communication counterpart, Tunji Moronfoye.
Others are the Chairman of the State Sports Council, Lanre Giwa, the Director of Sports, Tunde Kazeem, and managers of media houses in the state.
Speaking on the project, the Chairman of Kwara SWAN, Bunmi Adedoyin, said it would add value to sports development in Nigeria.
“I call on the state government, well-meaning Nigerians and stakeholders to support the association to achieve the goal,’’ he said.
The Kwara SWAN chairman said the secretariat was sited at the State Stadium Complex to ensure maximum utilisation of the facility.
“This will help to boost sports development and its promotion in the state and the country at large,’’ he said.
Adedoyin commended Oba Olusookun, who is the Grand Patron of Kwara SWAN and also the project’s Royal Co-ordinator, “for accepting to be a part of the grand occasion’’.(NAN)
