Ilorin – The Kwara Ministry of Sports and Youth Development and Sheedel Global Concept have concluded arrangements to organise the first beach soccer tournament in the state.
The tournament’s Event Director, Ahmed Abdullahi, said on Thursday in Ilorin at the end of a stakeholders meeting that the competition will hold in Ilorin later in the year.
He said the tournament would be the first of its kind in Nigeria at the grassroots level.
“The programme is designed to harness the state government’s policy thrust on sports development through the grassroots,’’ Abdullahi said.
He said part of the tournament organisers’ mission was to turn the beach soccer in the state into a huge business opportunity for the youths and also improve on individual talent.
The Permanent Secretary of the state’s Sports Ministry, Ayobola Samuel, who also attended the meeting, underlined government’s commitment and maximum support for the tournament.
“`We commend the organisers of the tournament for deeming it fit to bring such a laudable project to Kwara and we assure them of unalloyed support,’’ he said.(NAN)
