ILORIN – The Kwara State Government on Thursday restated its commitment to ensuring that pensioners in the state were paid regularly and promptly.
The Chairman of the state Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Kayode Yusuf, spoke on the government’s resolve at a send off programme organised by the State Branch of Nigeria Union of Pensioners.
The programme was in honour of the former Executive Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board, Mr Afolabi Salami.
Yusuf, who was represented by a Commissioner in the Commission, Mr Raphael Ayeni, also said the payment of gratuities would be done promptly.
He praised the leadership of the union for their support for the government.
The chairman described the outgoing executive secretary as a vibrant and intelligent officer who had served the state meritoriously.
Alhaji Mohammed Haliru, the Chairman of the Pensioners, also commended Salami for adding value to the system and described him as a truthful person.
Other speakers commended Salami for the achievements recorded during his tenure and urged the incoming Secretary to follow his footsteps.
Responding, Salami thanked members of the union for their support and the Commission for providing the enabling environment for him to make some achievements while in office.
He praised the former state Governor and now Senator representing Kwara Central, Dr Bukola Saraki, for giving him the opportunity to serve in that capacity. (NAN)
