Birnin Kebbi – No fewer than 7,000 rice farmers who are expected to cultivate and provide Labana Rice Processing Mill with raw materials have been registered, Alhaji Abdullahi Zuru, the General Manager, has said.
Zuru made the disclosure on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the management of the mill had inspected farms owned by the farmers as condition for their registration.
“The mill will act as guarantors to enable the farmers’ access agricultural loan to be obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria, “ he said, adding that the mill would purchase rice produced by the farmers.
The GM said the mill would also provide insecticides, fertilisers and water pumping machines to the farmers as loan.
To increase the tempo of activities at the mill and sustain supply of raw materials, Zuru said that additional 20,000 rice farmers would soon be registered.

He said the mill produces 300 tonnes of par boiled rice per day which are sold in markets nationwide.
Zuru expressed satisfaction that the the rice project recently introduced by the Federal Government would boost commercial rice production in the country. (NAN)
