Mararaba (Nasarawa State) – A 26-year-old labourer, Dominic Etim, who allegedly stole four tyres valued at N80,000, was on Thursday arraigned in a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, Nasarawa State.
Etim, who resides at Aso B Mararaba, Nasarawa State, is being tried on a count charge of theft.
The prosecutor, Agabi Auta, told the court that the case was reported at the Aso Police Station by one Pius Ejiofor, of Tudun Wada, Mararaba, on Aug. 26.
According to Auta, on the same date at about 8.00a.m., the defendant entered into the complainant’s mechanic shop located at Mararaba while he was making a phone call and stole four tyres valued at N80,000.
He said the defendant also stole some of the complainant’s clothes valued at N10,000 and ran away to an unknown destination.
Auta further said that the defendant was seen on Aug. 26 by the complainant at Mararaba when he was about to board a bus and he was arrested.
He added that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime and said that he sold the tyres to one Uche Johnson, who is now at large.
The prosecutor stated that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The judge, Albert Maga, granted the defendant N100,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
