Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Daniel Asama of the Labour Party (LP) has won the House of Representatives rerun election for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency, defeating his closest rival, Mohammed Gwani of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), by a margin of 4,752 votes.
Professor James Garba, the Returning Officer, officially declared Asama the winner on Monday morning, following last Saturday’s tightly contested election. Asama garnered a total of 66,422 votes.
The election follow a Court of Appeal ruling late last year that nullified the victories of PDP candidates Musa Agah (House of Representatives) and Senator Simon Mwadkon (Senate) and mandated rerun elections within 90 days. The PDP was also excluded from the ballot in both contests based on the court’s judgment.
