Abuja – A labourer, Nelson Idahosa, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Kado Upper Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing some clothes.
Idahosa, whose address was not given, is being charged with criminal trespass and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Helen Ochai, told the court that a resident, Segun Odesanya, of Plot 498, Ahmadu Bello Way, Kado Estate, Phase 2, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station.
She alleged that on Sept. 16, Idahosa jumped through Odesanya’s fence without his consent and stole some clothes.
The prosecutor further stated that the defendant could not give any reasonable explanation for his action after being caught in the act.
Ochai said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code Law.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defence counsel, Charity Nwosu, made an oral application praying the court to admit the defendant to bail.
He expressed assurances that the defendant would not jump bail.
The judge, Shehu Ahmadu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.
He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Ahmadu, thereafter, adjourned the case until Nov. 2 for hearing. (NAN)
