Labourer Jailed 4 Months For Stealing Seven Measures Of Beans, Other Items

Jos, – An Area Court sitting in Jos, on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year-old labourer, Christopher Mashingil to four months in prison for shop breaking and stealing foodstuffs.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Mashingil was sentenced by the duo of Magistrates Adam Sadiq and Hyacinth Dolnaan.

The convict was given an option of N30,000 fine, and also ordered to pay N30, 000 compensation to the complainant or serve additional one month in prison.

The Magistrates said that the judgment would serve as deterrent to others nursing similar criminal tendencies.

Earlier, the prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on Oct. 2, at the Anglo-Jos Police station by one Vivian Iliya.

The prosecutor said that the convict broke into the complainant’s shop and stole seven measures of beans, palm oil, crates of drinks and other foodstuffs.

He also went away with a gas cylinder and plasma television, all valued at N172,000.

The prosecutor said the offence was punishable under sections 333, 336 and 273 of the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
