ABUJA – The FCT Director of Sports, Alim Musa, on Monday said that lack of funds was responsible for the disbandment of the FCT Queens Female Football Club.
Musa disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja against the backdrop of the huge finance involved in funding football.
“ FCT Queens was disbanded because they do not understand why the government cannot give them what they want at any point in time.
“But everything has to follow the due procedure and they do not understand what the government was doing for them. [eap_ad_1] “I have said that if FCT will have a team that will represent her either in professional league or amateur league such a team must be attached to an organisation.
“That organisation must be money generating and part of the money will be used to run that club.
“Football should not just be about spending public funds, but generating funds that will run it. FCT sports council cannot own a club,’’ he said.
Musa also said that it was for the same reason that the FCT was not keen on having a club in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
“I don’t think that we are anxious in having a club in the NPFL. But if we have any in the NPFL, we will appreciate it.
“I am only saying that the institution or the club owner must be able to bear the entire financial burden,’’ Musa said.
NAN recalls that the FCT Queens was disbanded in December 2013, following the approval of the FCT Minister of State, Mrs Jumoke Akinjide. (NAN)
