Aiyetoro stated this while addressing students of Cherubim and Seraphim College, Ilorin on Thursday on “Drug abuse and misuse’’ as part of the association’s awareness programme on use of drugs.
The chairperson explained that taking antibiotics and not completing the dosage, taking drugs not prescribed in pregnancy and for breast feeding mothers were all harmful to the body.
She advised that drugs should be used as prescribed by certified medical personnel to avoid unpleasant consequences on the body.
According to her, some of the consequences of drug abuse and misuse are serious health hazards, treatment failure, worsened disease conditions and drug-food reactions.
Aiyetoro added that drug could either cure when used appropriately or kill when misused.
She pointed out that the prevalence of rape was as a result of the way teenagers were dressing, exposing their bodies.
She said that the adverse effects of sexual abuse to the health of victims were better imagined.
Other speakers at the sensitisation programme were Aina Obafemi, a Pharmacist, who spoke on “Who is a pharmacist and how to become one’’.
Obafemi, who said the programme was aimed at encouraging some of the students to embrace the profession in future, highlighted some of the requirements to be fulfilled. (NAN)
