LAGOS – An Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Monday reserved judgment in an attempted robbery case involving a 21-year-old man, Chukwuka Sunday, till May 26.
The court adjourned the case following a plea by the prosecutor, Cpl Uche Simon, for extension of time to enable him to get more facts. The case had earlier been adjourned till May 5 for facts and sentencing.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Omolade Awope, had on April 29 ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody after he pleaded guilty to the offences.
The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of attempt to steal and unlawful damage.
The prosecutor had told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 16 at Bamboo Black Spot, Alapere, Ketu, Lagos, at about 8.20 p.m.
He explained that the accused with two others still at large attempted to rob one Mr Olatunji Smith at the spot when his car broke down.
“While the complainant was fixing his car, Sunday and two others surfaced with knives to attack him. On sighting them from a distance, the complainant entered his car and locked up.
“The accused and his gang, who were desperate, broke the rear windshield of the complainant’s Volkswagen Gulf car with registration no. LSD 828 CN,” Simon said.
The prosecutor said that the complainant was rescued by another driver, who hit the accused with his car.
“The accused was apprehended and handed to the police,” he said.
He said the offences contravened Sections 404 and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 404 provides seven years imprisonment for offenders. (NAN)
