Lagos – The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Housing on Wednesday summoned 22 of the 27 contractors handling the state’s Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (Lagos HOMS) at Ibeshe area of the state.
Mr Olanrewaju Layode, Chairman of the committee, told newsmen during the inspection tour of the area that work done stands at 40 per cent.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the three-phase projects have 20 blocks of 12 flats in each phase.
According to the committee chairman, each of the contractors at Ibeshe has been mobilised with 60 per cent payment of the contract sum.
Layode said that the slow pace of work at the site was worrisome and residents of the state, who would occupy the building, had been complaining.
“Most of the contractors have abandoned the work after receiving up to 60 per cent of the tax payers’ money.
“The work done so far is just at about 40 per cent, when they are expected to be near completion,” he said.
Layode, who urged residents to be patient with the government, said that the committee would give necessary support to ensure completion of the project.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
NAN reports that the committee had earlier summoned several contractors for abandoning some other Lagos Homs Projects across the state.
Lagos HOMS is the initiative of former governor Babatunde Fashola to provide affordable houses for residents.
The HOMS projects encourage and support First-Time- Buyer (FTB) residents of Lagos State to purchase decent and affordable homes through the provision of accessible mortgage finance.
NAN reports that the committee had visited Surulere, Ijora Badia, Oyingbo, Mushin, Gbagada, Ilupeju, Omole 1 and 2, Oko Oba, Akanimodo, Agbowa, Amuwo-Odofin, Igbogbo, Igando and other sites of the scheme.(NAN)
