LAGOS – The 2015 Youth Alive Community Basketball League (YACBL) will resume on Feb. 21 in Lagos, the Coordinator, Gbade Olatona, said on Saturday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that YACBL went on break on Jan. 17, after first round matches, to allow players to participate in the Lagos Sports Festival, “Ibile Games’’.
Olatona told NAN in Lagos that the league was scheduled to resume after participants would have rested well.
Ibile Games took place from Jan. 26 to Feb. 6.
”We are happy to announce to the public that the YACBL is set for action as all logistics for the restart of games have been put in place.
”There was break to allow our league players to represent their various schools in the basketball events of the just-concluded Ibile Games,” Olatona said.
According to him, the YACBL and the Ibile Games have the same objective – developing youths who have passion for basketball.

”We share the same vision of the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Enitan Oshodi.
“His vision of developing young talents brought about Ibile Games; on our part, YACBL is to give an opportunity to young people with passion for basketball to showcase their talents.
“It is a grooming ground for future state and national players,” Olatona said.
He said that more schools had been encouraged to participate in the YACBL.
”We used the Ibile Games to inform many schools who were not aware about the YACBL, and more schools have indicated interest to register in the league when it resumes.
”We are expecting schools from Epe, Ikorodu and Lekki to participate,” he said.
NAN reports that the league features junior players in the U-14, U-16, U-18 boys and girls categories. (NAN)
