IKEJA – Some members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Friday appealed to Nigerians to cooperate with the government to fight the lingering insecurity in the country.
They told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ikeja that the solutions to the security challenges in the country were in the hands of all.
Mr Muyiwa Jimoh, a member of the House, representing (APC-Apapa I), said it was not the responsibility of the government alone, because every onlooker was either a coward or a traitor.
Jimoh urged the government to review its security strategies at the borders, because of the influx of illegal aliens into the country.
“You can see what is happening; the state of emergency declared in some states in the northern part of the country is not working because our borders are porous,” he said.
Mrs Ramota Hassan, (APC-Amuwo Odofin II), added that majority of the members of Boko-Haram were not Nigerians.
Hassan told NAN that the government should increase and fortify the nation’s intelligence outfits, both within and outside our borders.
“What I know is that members of Boko Haram are not mainly Nigerians; they are from our neighbouring countries.
“The Federal Government should find a solution to the unwarranted abduction of innocent school children,” she said.
The lawmaker also urged every state to implement the resident registration policy adopted by the Lagos State Government, to easily identify illegal aliens in the country.
Mr Bisi Yusuf, (APC-Alimosho I), urged motorists to register their vehicles with the appropriate authorities for safety.
Yusuf, the Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Commerce and Industry, noted that if vehicles were duly registered, it would go a long way towards curbing the menace of insecurity.
The lawmaker advised the FG to install security gadgets like the CCTV in all the motor parks, to unveil the evil perpetrators and prevent future re-occurrence.
A bomb blast occurred again on May 1 in Nyanya, on the outskirts of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, killing 12 people and injuring 19 others.
The blast occurred 17 days after a similar explosion at the Nyanya Bus Park, which killed more than 75 people and left over 100 injured. (NAN)
